PAWSG is delighted to invite members and local residents to our next public meeting:
Climate – the Big Picture: What Is Happening Now?
This event will explore how the climate is changing globally and locally, and what current national and international efforts are doing to slow and manage those changes.
Recent years have brought striking contrasts in our weather, with periods of exceptional rainfall following prolonged dry spells. What is driving these changes? How unusual are recent extremes when viewed in a longer historical context? And with the 50th anniversary of the 1976 drought approaching, were droughts and heatwaves really worse in the past?
To help address these questions, we are very pleased to welcome Professor Sir Brian Hoskins and Professor Nigel Arnell, who will provide an expert overview followed by discussion.
Date: Thursday 19 February
Time: 8.00 pm
Venue: Pangbourne Village Hall
Speakers: Professor Sir Brian Hoskins and Professor Nigel Arnell
The evening will cover:
What is currently happening to the global climate
How national and international responses are evolving
What recent changes mean for UK weather patterns
How today’s extremes compare with historic events such as the 1976 drought
This promises to be an informative and thought-provoking evening, with time for questions and discussion.
Please see the attached poster for full details, and feel free to share this event through your usual networks.
